In search of the perfect bag (part 3)

I found it. Heureka!

20150916_195728Well- not really, at least something that comes close to what I want. It’s a pilot bag. It has seventeen-or-so pockets, zippers, loops, and is made of the usual nylon textile material. It’s not perfect but pretty close to what I want. The zippers are a bit rough and feel cheap. The company logo stitched on every part of the bag makes it look like a promotional give-away. The handle that came with it needed some modification, but in the big picture of things, this is what I wanted. One of the outside pockets is even big enough to take up an insulated Starbucks mug, the inside pockets can take a lap-top. It’s a bit on the heavy side, the net weight of this bag could be less, but this is due to the modules which can be replaced and zippered on (check the website below to see what I mean to say here). The outside pockets are probably a feast for pickpockets, but most of my commute its by car or taxi, so this aspect is not my concern.

Of course, I get funny looks in the elevator up to my office. They might think I am one of the maintenance guys or work for the local railway company. I don’t think anybody associates this with pilots and flying.

Having surfed all sorts of pilot and aviation websites, I came across the knee board, a thing pilots use to have their maps, charts and notes ready when they need them. As the name says, it’s strapped to the knee of the pilot. I thought this might be useful also for the commuter, when he/she wants to read on the train or in the car. More about this coming up soon.
